Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali and Myha’la star in this dystopian thriller from Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground production company, which plays on reality-adjacent fears of terrorism and technological disaster to weave a gripping story that is both suspenseful and has something to say about race and society. Michael O’Sullivan says it’s “the human dynamic that is the most chilling and, in the end, almost hopeful.” (R, 141 minutes.)
